Top B teams debut in premier A round two

-

THERE will be two new additions to premier A for the start of round two tomorrow. After three weeks of round-robin games and one crossover match, promotion-relegation games were held earlier this week. Columba College Senior A and College Red will join the premier A after both winning their games. The teams were top of premier B at the end of round one, which earned them a spot in Tuesday night’s games. They played the lowest-placed teams in premier A — South Pacific Titans and Taieri Netball Club. Columba beat South Pac 67-41 and College beat Taieri 60-23. After a relatively even first half, Columba pulled ahead in the third quarter to cement its victory, while College ran away with the lead in the second stanza. Columba is now the second school team in the grade, alongside St Hilda’s, while College Red joins its fellow club team, College A. South Pac and Taieri will move down to premier B. Round two includes seven games before the semi-finals and finals in mid-August. The competition will pause for Queen’s Birthday next weekend and take a three-week break for the university holidays in June and July. Teams will no longer compete in pools like in round one. Columba and College Red will have a tough start to the grade, playing Phys Ed A and Southern Magpies, respectively. Southern and Phys Ed A are strong teams that have been performing well so far this season. Phys Ed won all of its games in round one and is the only team Southern has lost to. Both teams will be looking to add another win. The other two premier A games will be a rematch of the first games of the season. Coincidentally, they both ended with the same score — 61-25. Back then, Phys Ed B beat St Hilda’s and College A defeated Phys Ed C. While we might expect to see the same winning teams tomorrow, St Hilda’s and Phys Ed C will be eager to redeem themselves and keep the scoreline much closer. Round two resumes on June 11.
