ELECTIONS

Let us hope that there will be new blood at Waikato Regional Council.

It has had the appearance of being a retirement village for exmayors who incidentally have given sterling service to their ratepayers and deserve a more relaxed life.

Things are not all they seem at WRC with it being fractionalised on many issues even before they hit the meeting agendas.

This is not a grump for teamwork to be displayed but for independent thinking to take place.

If we have to use a sporting analogy lets us the track and field one with the best coming together to give their all.

It seem that many councils are stacked with long serving councillors who must after in some cases 20 years have run out of ideas as to what is best for ratepayers.

May I suggest that three terms be the limit unless the councillor is standing for mayor only?

This of course does not apply to WRC who elect their own from their numbers.

This is a dicey process with an awful lot of lobbying going on and chairperson positions being decided behind closed doors.

Can understand Pauls Southgate leaving to have a tilt at being the mayor of Hamilton City.

She is a big loss to WRC and will make a good mayor.
