Motorama: Car enthusiasts’ paradise
Start revving your engines! There will something for everyone at Yankee Haulers Morrinsville Motorama this year.
Organisers of the event have adopted ‘‘Something for everyone’’ as their catch phrase and they promise to not disappoint.
The two-day event has evolved over the years into what it is today with thousands of people from all over the North Island gathering to take a look at what’s on offer.
The Yankee Haulers Hot Rod Club is a Morrinsville-based group of approximately 40 enthusiastic car loving people who took on the organisation of the event a few years ago.
Organiser Todd Sherburd said because the Yankee Haulers group is passionate about cars particularly hot rods, it just seemed like the right thing to throw their support behind.
‘‘We picked up the event with both hands,’’ he said.
Motorama is a car enthusiasts’ paradise, with one of this year’s features being retro caravans.
On Saturday, February 11, those participating in the cruise meet at Moorhouse St and drive for approximately 100km. The prizegiving will take place at the Top Pub.
Gates open at the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds for the drive in movie at 6pm. This is a family favourite for those who want to take a picnic dinner and a blanket.
The movie being screened this year is Shaker Run.
On Sunday, February 12, the Show-n-Shine brings up to 700 Hot Rods and Classic Cars and a fantastic selection of trucks and motorbikes and Vintage Vehicles to the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds, along with trade and food stalls, a swap meet and Miss Retro Motorama contest.
There will also be plenty entertainment on the main stage, children’s entertainment and an overall prize giving at 1pm.
Sherburd said it’s a family fun day for everyone.
‘‘I would encourage people to bring their families along to take a look at what’s on offer. There really will be something for every member of the family.’’
A big proportion of the funds collected at Motorama are donated back to the community, Sherburd said.
‘‘We like to support local groups with these funds such as Plunket, Air Ambulance and Fire Brigade,’’ he said.
