Moving with the times

- STAFF REPORTERS

It’s all go at St Joseph’s Catholic School in Te Aroha.

The school is currently undergoing large scale renovations.

Last week an enormous crane lifted and relocated classrooms on the school’s grounds.

Senior team leader Emalene Cull said when work is completed, the classrooms will be fully refurbished on the inside with the latest in educational, building and digital technologies.

The new modern learning environment will cater for two classrooms of children, with a shared learning environment and spaces indoors and outdoors for specialised teaching.

The environment will be fitted with sound proofing, insulation and air conditioning as well as offering a 1:1 digital device ratio for St Joseph Catholic School learners.

‘‘There will even be a green screen for video making,’’ Cull said.

School teaching staff are in a second year professional development in Learner Agency, in order to be able to cater best for their 21st Century learners.

‘‘This is where our learners take responsibility for their own learning journey and we as teachers become guides for learning, not directing from the front,’’ she said.

‘‘This style of teaching and learning is right on the cutting edge of education in New Zealand, empowering children to become life-long learners.’’
