Te Aroha Co­bras keep Plate cam­paign alive

The Te Aroha Co­bras- D trav­elled to Otoro­hanga to take on their C-di­vi­sion team in the Waikato Plate.

Te Aroha started al­most timidly against the high-graded Otoro­hanga team.

Otoro­hanga struck first scor­ing in 20th minute of the game. Di­rected on the side line by Matt Gra­ham, Te Aroha in­stantly changed their mode of play and shorten their pass­ing game.

Ryan O’Con­ner (MoM) ram­paged through the cen­tre of the field, be­fore David Brad­bury set up James Lee to equalise.

Liam Gal­lagher scored the 2nd from a corner, putting Te Aroha in the lead. Jack Keeys used his unas­sail­able speed to score from the tight­est of an­gels, ex­tend­ing the lead.

Then Brad­bury sent Lee through for an­other but af­ter beat­ing three play­ers, Lee off­loaded to Pa­trick Leahy who scored.

At half time Te Aroha were lead­ing 4-1 Otoro­hanga started the sec­ond half with a point to prove.

Ten min­utes into the half Otoro­hanga scored. Te Aroha des­per­ately tried to hang on to their lead but Otoro­hanga scored again, mak­ing it 4-3.

How­ever, the pres­sure was re­leased when header from Brad­bury put Lee in for his sec­ond goal of the game.

Te Aroha won the game 5-3 can kept their Plate cam­paign alive.

The NZI Te Aroha Re­serves played the Waikato Cup against Waihi FC. Sadly, Te Aroha was knocked out of the cup by a com­pe­tent Waihi in a 3-0 loss.

Te Aroha women’s team lost 3-0 to a com­pe­tent Melville in Hamil­ton on Sun­day. Melville came out of the blocks faster and sharper in the first half. Te Aroha held their own for the first 20 min­utes but Melville struck twice in quick suc­ces­sion.

Te Aroha had some good chances but Melville’s keeper was not to be beaten. Melville’s third goal came just be­fore half­time.

Af­ter the half­time break Te Aroha played bet­ter foot­ball but we’re unable to cap­i­talise. The sec­ond half was drawn but sadly the game was lost 3-0. The NZI-Te Aroha Co­bras-A team had their game post­poned.

This Satur­day, Co­bras-A play Cam­bridge at John Kerkhof Park Park 2.45pm. Co­bras-Re­serves play West Ham at home 12.30pm. Co­bras-D play Toko­roa at Strath­more Park 12.30pm. Sun­day, Co­bras-Women play Melville at home at 11am.
