2022 Weanling Sale catalogue online

-

New Zealand Bloodstock has released the catalogue for its 2022 National Weanling Sale, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 17, at Karaka.

For the first time since the 2020 yearling sales, vaccinated Australians will be able to attend a sale at Karaka without requiring isolation.

NZ Bloodstock’s online bidding services will also be available, giving buyers the chance to access an offering of quality weanlings remotely.

The National Weanling Sale is a proven source of racetrack success, producing the likes of Group One winners Callsign Mav and Jennifer Eccles in recent seasons.

Pinhookers have also done well from the sale, with last year’s $145,000 weanling sale topper by Almanzor out of Girl Of My Dreams returning to the yearling sale at Karaka, where he was bought for $280,000. Meanwhile, an Almanzor colt out of Sure Enough ($42,000) and a Shocking colt out of Out Of The Barn ($11,000) both followed the same path, to return $220,000 and $160,000 respectively.

There are 111 weanlings set to go under the hammer next month, where buyers will have access to the progeny of established sires such as American Pharoah, Belardo, Darci Brahma, Dundeel, Ocean Park, Per Incanto, Proisir, Redwood, Savabeel, Shocking, Sweynesse, Tivaci, Turn Me Loose and Vadamos, as well as an exclusive early look at New Zealand’s exciting first-season sires including Super Seth, Ten Sovereigns and Wyndspelle.

There’s plenty of quality on the dams’ side as well, with the progeny of 10 stakes-winning mares, including Group One winner Xanadu (Lot 7), along with well-bred weanlings who are siblings to proven blacktype stars such as Boomba, Nicoletta, The Holy One, Scott Base, Daqiansweet Junior and Rock On Wood.

NZ Bloodstock managing director Andrew Seabrook is looking forward to hosting another National Weanling Sale at Karaka.

‘‘We have seen the weanlingonly sale format adopted well by our buyers since its inauguration in 2020,’’ Seabrook said.

‘‘Key metrics have continued to climb across the board and it tends to bring great participation by both international and domestic buyers, including a strong contingent of pinhookers.

‘‘With the market and demand for our New Zealand stock being so strong, we are looking forward to selling more horses on behalf of our consignors.’’

All weanlings offered through the National Weanling Sale at Karaka are eligible to be nominated for NZ Bloodstock’s lucrative Karaka Million Series.

Graduates can compete for a share in the $1m DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the remainder of their careers.

Weanlings entered in the sale will be available for inspections at the on-farm parades and onsite at Karaka Sales Centre, with NZ Bloodstock agents available to inspect on behalf of buyers.

Buyers wanting to physically attend the sale and stay on-site and can book into NZ Bloodstock’s newly established DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka hotel.
