STOP DEVELOPMENTS

-

Both common sense and logic would dictate that when you find a solution to a problem, you don’t keep doing the same thing that caused the problem in the first place. I am referring to the current traffic crisis plaguing the Peninsula. In an effort to keep the masses happy and to prevent building Penlink, the council have come up with what they believe to be a silver bullet, the newly installed multi lane system. Unfortunately Council really have no concern for our traffic problems as they are still allowing large and single residential developments to occur on the Coast. I appreciate their corporate response will simply be ‘‘to assist with the housing shortage’’, in other words ‘to increase rates revenue’, but even a goldfish knows to only grow to the size of its bowl. Within 500 metres of our home, there are six houses being added to subdivided properties, on top of the dense housing projects on Links Road, Gulf Harbour, behind Mitre 10 and the proposed housing development on the Whangaparaoa College land opposite the Plaza. The lane management system on Whangaparaoa Road will be relevant for no more than 18 months, at which time the council will advise us that they solved the problem for us, but its actually our fault for using our cars. At present the Council’s ignorance of the real issues are our biggest problem, they need to start showing support for our District, build Penlink and redesign the Silverdale/Whangaparaoa roading system or stop all developments on the Coast.
