Hunt for shop robbers

Rotorua police are still on the hunt for two men who, armed with a hammer, robbed a fish and chip shop on Tuesday night. A police spokeswoma­n said two men went into Ranolf Fish and Chips on Ranolf St about 8.50pm on Tuesday and threatened staff and demanded cash. A cash box was taken as well as one of the staff member’s cellphones. She said there were two staff in the shop and the offenders left the store on foot. The men are described as Ma¯ ori in their early 20s and one used a bandanna to cover his face. People with informatio­n about the robbery should contact Rotorua police on (07) 349 9400.

Local Lotto win

A $13,757 Second Division-winning Lotto ticket was bought at Paper Plus Central in Rotorua. The ticket was one of 13 to nab the $13,757 Second Division prize in Wednesday night’s live draw. Bylaw recommende­d

Rotorua Lakes Council’s Strategy, Policy and Finance Committee has recommende­d the full council adopt a new Alcohol Ban Bylaw 2018. The bylaw would replace the Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2009 which expires this year. If the full council adopts the bylaw, it would take effect on November 22. The committee also recommende­d the council approved a temporary liquor ban for the area of Tikitapu (Blue Lake) during the ZM Float Music Festival 2019, previously known as Floachella. The temporary ban would run from 8am to 10pm on February 16.

Dog-bite victim stable

A Bay of Plenty woman who was viciously attacked by three dogs remains in a critical but stable condition at Tauranga Hospital. The 60-year-old O¯ po¯ tiki woman was attacked by the dogs in Te Kaha last Friday. The dogs belonged to her brother and left wounds to the woman's head, neck, abdomen and legs.

Car crashes into bank

Emergency services were called to the Kaingaroa Forest yesterday after a car crashed into a bank on State Highway 38. Police, fire, and ambulance attended the scene and one person was taken to Rotorua Hospital in a moderate condition. Later in the day emergency services were called to a crash involving a car and truck near the intersecti­on of State Highway 5 and Waimangu Rd. One person sustained moderate injuries.

Armistice Day service

Rotorua residents and visitors have the opportunit­y to commemorat­e the centenary of Armistice Day this Sunday. A commemorat­ion service will take place at the Centotaph in Government Gardens to honour and remember those who fought in World War I. Following the service a range of family activities and entertainm­ent will be provided to mark the end of the war and to celebrate peace.

Trucks checked

Police in the Bay of Plenty want to remind drivers of heavy motor vehicles to make sure they stay safe. As the end of year approaches the commercial vehicle safety team will be doing even more vehicle inspection­s and checkpoint­s. Police encourage drivers to make sure they are rested and take regular breaks.
