Dunedin “sludge pop” band Soaked Oats are hitting the road for towns great and small on their 13-date Aotearoa tour.

The Shuggah Doom Tour, starting December 28 and wrapping up on February 21, will visit centres including Coromandel, Gisborne, Mount Maunganui, Taupo, Leigh and Kapiti Coast among others.

During that time the band will release a new single, Shuggah Doom, from an EP due early next year.

Soaked Oats have just returned from a successful US tour where they travelled in excess of 10,000 miles in a 1980s RV to play 20 shows.

■ ■ ■ Children’s songwriters Kath Bee and Anna van Riel have recorded a Christmas song, Give Love at Christmas, with proceeds going to Variety.

The catchy pop song, recorded at Wanaka by Danny Fairley, includes a multicultural and multi-aged choir from around the Wanaka area, with a gospel touch added by 12-year-old soloist Matilda Metcalf.

Describe yourself as an artist in one sentence.

Consistently educational and entertaining.

Why is music such a strong format for exploring political issues?

Anything in the form of song is easier to digest. We learn maths and the alphabet to music because it helps us remember. Our brains are wired to have a deeper connection to things presented in melody.

What is one key message you hope fans come away from your shows with?

I have no message I want people to
