Treasure raid
Police have begun an international hunt after thieves stole 483 Celtic coins and a lump of unworked gold this week in the Bavarian town of Manching. The treasures were discovered during an archeological dig near Manching in 1999. Bavarian police said that at 1.17am local time on Tuesday telecom cables were cut about 1km from the town’s Celtic and Roman Museum, enabling thieves to raid the treasure, valued at about €1.6 million. Police blame the raid on a Berlin-based crime family.
