OCR rise hits council

The latest Official Cash Rate hike has worsened Auckland Council’s budget blowout. Mayor Wayne Brown says the unprecedented interest rate hike will increase the budget hole from $270 million to $295m. He says without spending cuts, rates would have to go up by more than 13 per cent, with further big rises in future years.
