Jackie was rescued from Vietnam in the 1970s as a child and brought to New Zealand where she has become a successful business woman. She loves her adoptive dad Terry, but as she turns 40 she feels the need for something more.

She meets up with an old friend from university and their old relationship sparks again. But then her dad dies and she carries out his wishes to be returned to Vietnam.

Her trip provides plenty of surprises and threatens her relationship with Jeff as she meets up with the family who abandoned her as a baby.

Brungar has established herself as a writer to be reckoned with and this new novel will only strengthen that reputation.
