Act’s truancy move
The Act party wants to make it mandatory for schools to report attendance daily. The party launched its truancy policy yesterday, which also includes diverting money the Government spends on truancy services directly to schools to hire truancy officers. It would also change the Education and Training Act to allow the Education Ministry to introduce an infringement notice regime for truancy. Leader David Seymour says parents of truant kids have to be prosecuted in court to be fined.
