Funding for medicines

Thousands of people will benefit from expanded access to seven drugs from yesterday. Pharmac is funding open access to progesterone, widening access to a pneumococcal vaccine, and listing a long-acting schizophrenia treatment. There are also new treatments for kidney disease, leukaemia, lymphoma and major burns. Pharmac chief medical officer David Hughes says they are important medicines and this is just a first wave.
