Looking after your specs:

Our eyesight is incredibly precious, and therefore so are our specs, because without them the majority of us would be up the creek without a paddle! Here at Blur Eyecare we are forever offering tips and tricks to our customers to help extend the life of their fresh new specs (especially those serial offenders who insist on keeping them loose in their pocket or handbag)…. yes the cases can be bulky and annoying to carry, but they are there for a reason… and it’s a very good reason!

If you would like some Intel on how to get plenty of life out of your specs, see below. If you consider yourself to be a serial offender who can’t be tamed… as you were.

For an easy ‘at home’ option, smear a small dollop of dishwashing liquid over your lenses and rinse with COLD water. This will help break down the oily film we find on our lenses from sunscreens and make-ups etc. Use a soft clean tissue or your microfibre cloth to dry them. NEVER use hot water as this can irreparably damage the lens coating. Other options are using lens cleaning sprays or wipes. We have these available in all 3 of our stores (Tauranga CBD, Mount Maunganui and Rotorua).

Keep your specs in their case when they’re not on your face…. Great wee rhyme for the little sprogs out there, whose parents would rather not be replacing broken specs every 6 months! It also helps to avoid the “who sat on my glasses?!” argument.

If you ignore the above suggestion, avoid placing your specs face down, as this will

eventually result in a damaged front lens surface.

(just try, at least mostly) use two hands when putting your specs on and taking them off. This will help keep the frame in alignment. If you constantly pull them off with one hand, you will eventually weaken the temple hinge causing it to break or loosen beyond help.

Avoid wearing your specs or sunglasses on top of your head. They will eventually

splay and loosen, sometimes to the point where adjustments will no longer hold.

Do not clean or rub your lenses with your shirt-tail, or a tea towel, or a paper towel, or

anything that is not your microfibre cloth!

So there you have it, some simple and easy ways to give your specs the good life they deserve. Then you will have no excuses for missing a spot when doing the housework!
