$2m funding bid

Rotorua Lakes Council is on track to receive more than $2 million from the Government’s $350m Transport Choices package for 2022-24. The council is one of 46 up for local funding. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will work with successful councils in a two-stage process. The first is to further refine and scope their project proposals, with constructi­on beginning on some projects by June 2023. Council infrastruc­ture and environmen­tal solutions deputy chief executive, Stavros Michael, said a priority in its transport plan is the improvemen­t and growth of urban shared paths and cycling networks, to deliver strategic cycling options and safe walkable neighbourh­oods for the district.
