FOLK SINGER’S ROTORUA RETURN
Well-traversed folk vocalist Tui Mamaki returns to Rotorua midnovember with the release of her new album.
The album is titled FLY — an appropriate title for Tui, who has flown over the seas seeking inspiration and developing her artistic voice.
Previously visiting Rotorua with former band The Mamaku Project and facilitating two vocal workshops in the traditional harmonies of Bulgaria, this month Tui performs originals developed in the aftermath of her studies, the end of a long relationship, a death in her family and acknowledging the beginnings that life changes initiate.
The solo album yields a series of songs with lyrics that call and respond to the cycles of life as we know it.
The songs also display Tui’s vocal aptitude, using a range and emotional capacity that captures the listener, making this evening performance an unmissable show.
The show is supported by guest vocalists Jenny Lux and Katy Cable, and will feature powerful originals and traditional harmonies combined with thematic poetry from Rotorua writer and vocalist, Angela Frank.
Angela says she is excited to be a part of Tui’s album release show in Rotorua.
“I was a bit daunted, but I felt like it was an opportunity I had to say yes to.”
She says she is going to be doing some supporting singing with Tui and will be performing poetry.
The show is being held at Rotorua Little Theatre at 6pm on Sunday November 18.
It costs $20 for presales and $25 for door sales/
