Make Xmas happier for more folk
The community is being encouraged to help create pamper packs and make someone’s Christmas a little bit brighter.
The Running for Hope Rotorua Christmas Pamper Appeal needs donations.
Running for Hope co-ordinator Clare Jessep says she is doing 12 Days, 12 Pampers — giving out a pamper pack a day to nominees from December 12 to December 24 — and has had more than 20 nominations already.
She says hopefully if there are enough donations she will be able to make sure all the nominations are covered in the near future.
She says it feels great to have so many nominations, but it also proves that there are a lot of people going through things who need to be acknowledged.
“Christmas is the hardest time of year for so many people.”
She has had experience of this herself, as her sister died three days before one Christmas.
“There can be a lot of empty seats at the Christmas table. I think hope is important at Christmas and is something people are craving these days.”
Clare says there is also a lot of pressure on people and families at Christmas time.
Running for Hope started 18 months ago and is about Clare’s running and acknowledging people’s journeys through grief and loss.
Clare has been giving out one to two pamper packs a month.
“I think everyone is deserving of a little bit of kindness and you never know what is happening in someone’s life. Everyone has a burden they are carrying.
She says the number of happy tears she has seen when people receive a pamper pack is incredible.
“What I love about this is there are a lot of people paying it forward. It’s having a real flow-on effect — it’s pretty cool.”
Clare says items which would make great donations include vouchers, toiletries and any pamper items for men and women.
She has already had some items donated, including candles, massage vouchers and Eat Streat vouchers. She thanks those who have already made these donations.
For those who would like to donate, they need to be made by December 7.
