How to revitalise Ashburton

Selwyn and Ashburton Outlook - - METHVEN A&P SHOW - COUNCIL

Potential options for each street in Ashburton’s CBD will be discussed by the Ashburton District Council’s town centre working group this week as the bid to rejuvenate the town’s centre continues.

The group was tasked with developing recommendations around parking and streetscape designs aimed at revitalising the CBD and attracting more business into the commercial centre.

Working group chair, councillor Diane Rawlinson, said a great deal of work had been carried out on the condition of the CBD and the findings would need to be carefully considered to ensure the most effective path forward.

‘‘This is about supporting economic growth in our town, and developing a space that people want to visit and enjoy.

‘‘We’ve engaged a transportation consultant to review the streets of the CBD and develop concept designs as part of a streetscape renewal project. We have also carried out a parking survey as part of our wider parking strategy review.’’

The working group would present its recommendations to council on April 5 and public consultation would begin later that month.
