Colorado-based cosmetic physician Dr Ben Johnson founded skincare brand Osmosis over ten years ago with the specific intention to develop products that permanently improve skin.

Ben, what are your favourite products in the Osmosis range?

“I’m passionate about Osmosis serums because they create healthy skin that functions at its highest capacity,” he explains. “Fortunately, once skin is at optimum health, it can actually thicken its dermis, repair its barrier and heal old wounds. At Osmosis we also make nice moisturizers and masks, but I encourage everyone to invest most of their skincare budget on products that make permanent improvements.”

What are the key Osmosis product ingredients?

“You can’t burn or exfoliate your way to youthful skin. You need to make the skin stronger. Ingredients that increase the repair capacity of our skin include trioxolane, which permanently heals the source of age spots; Zinc Finger Technology, which permanently heals broken capillaries; and stem cell-derived growth factors that increase the overall production of the skin. Inner health and wellness also promote great skin, and more supplements are being designed that improve internal health to treat specific skin conditions.”

How has this changed over the past year or so?

“The movement towards wellness products in skincare has been rapid in recent years. People are finally recognizing that many skin conditions are caused by internal imbalances. Only a few years ago we blamed everything on ‘bad skin’ when the skin is relatively consistent in behavior and only shows evidence of malfunction when exposed to toxins or pathogens.”

What are the most effective anti-ageing ingredients used in skincare today?

“Liposomal retinaldehyde, Liposomal niacinamide, Liposomal chlorella, Liposomal L-hydroxyproline, Trioxolane, Zinc Finger Technology. Singularly these ingredients are not as effective, however together they form liposomes which can increase skin penetration by 600%. What I like about this ingredient list is that it’s age-reversing, rather than anti-ageing. The difference is using ingredients that empower the skin to permanently fix old sun damage on its own.”

What philosophy is at the core of your brand?

Osmosis is trying to dramatically shi“ the health of your skin. This involves increasing the nutrients delivered by increasing circulation in unique ways. It turns out that by age 50 we have 25% less circulation in the skin which coincides with 25% fewer growth factors, 25% less collagen, 25% more imperfections and discoloration, 25% closer turnover and much more. This all increases by 1% a year. Osmosis has patented or proprietary strategies to address each area of loss to overcome the long-held belief that skincare cannot make permanent changes to the skin. Our skin performs a million different functions a minute, it is highly intelligent and not ‘broken’ with age. Because of these shortages, it simply does not have the nutrition and tools it needs to maintain itself. Osmosis addresses these bottlenecks so that the skin can thrive and operate at its most efficient and youthful state.”
