Colour My Life
Simply You’s hotly anticipated social event of the season is fast approaching.
“Ihad been feeling like a bit of a design impostor having never visited Milan during Salone del Mobile – the annual world showcase of interior design. But this year I finally got to go, and it was magnifico! I was fortunate to have Scott Fisk and Angus Dawson of Dawson & Co as my travel companions for a couple of days to preview the Noble Souls collection by Timothy Oulton. Along with soaking up the dynamic design offerings, we indulged in delicious pasta and vino whenever the opportunity arose!
Salone del Mobile, the original Milan Furniture Fair, may have lent its name to this event (although it’s generally referred to as ‘the festival’), but in reality the furniture fair was a mere support act to the myriad installations and exhibitions that populated Milan for that magical week in April. I was amazed at how the whole city got behind the event and welcomed the huge influx of design-hungry visitors – from the high-end fashion boutiques, which added some interior-design cred to their window displays, to the premium Uber drivers in their black Mercedes, who were charming and well-schooled on the whereabouts of all the festivities.
The Italians have perfected the mix of flair, food, fashion and fun, and it really inspired the way the Simply You team went about curating this issue. No one ticks these boxes quite like the enviable Dame Trelise Cooper, who let us into her Orakei abode to shoot our cover story (page 52) and learn her tips for stylish entertaining. Colour and creativity flourish too in the Herne Bay home of George Hewitt and her fashion designer daughter, Maggie - founder of luxe label Maggie Marilyn. Turn to page 62 to take in their eclectic mix of personality-packed homeware and vibrant art.
With winter well and truly in our midst, our beauty section is here to serve. We’re sharing the secrets for beating those winter skin blues, bringing colour into your makeup collection with hues to suit all skin types, and discovering high-potency natural ingredients that are good for your skin and the planet.
I hope you find this issue’s inspiration infectious and a source of fresh impetus to all your creative endeavours!
