Novelty shoot:The first card was the President’s shoot a rabbit. Bruce Cameron was right on the mark with 108.9 one point ahead of Sam Gooding and Frank Eustace. Juniors Tennille Crump Conchie, Rico Symes Patterson and Christina Burr had scores over 100. The second card was a 20-yard target shot at 25 yards. Sam Gooding recorded a 99.5 and second was the fast improving Christina Burr with 96.7. Sam Gooding was the overall winner with Christina Burr second and the two Camerons equal on third. ELTHAM SMALLBORE

The official season for the Eltham Smallbore Rifle Club has ended, but the club will continue its Monday and Friday meetings for those keen on improving their competitiv­eness. Recently the Stratford and Midhurst Scouts competed against one another with shooting scores and questions on the Arms Act being part of the competitio­n. Stratford eventually won in a tight tussle. INDOOR BOWLS

The Waimate plains Indoor Bowls Associatio­n recently played their annual Radio Taranaki Cup Tournament which was won by the Otakeho Club team of Don Semple, Jane Augustine, Kath Whyte and Sam Landers – runners up where the Normanby Club team of Karl Hughes, Andrea Berry, Julie Jackson and Nigel Berry.

CYCLING

D grades: Kevin Lock and Steve Cragg dominated the 54km Mangawhero handicap on Saturday with Kevin Lock taking the honours on the line. C grades: Grant Dean rode strongly for third just edging out James Murphy. B grades: Seth Coleman took fastest time in 1.31.33 with John Larkin second in 1.32.00.

CROQUET

The South Taranaki Croquet Assn. Johnstone Shield Interclub matches were played on Monday. Golf Croquet handicap pairs Park v Stratford at Park Lawns. L Smith and B Black (Pk) b G Logie and M Burton (Sfd) 21-6. R Keech and J Davies (Pk) b J Connell and N Larkin (Sfd) 21-10. Total 42-16, winners Park. Associatio­n Croquet Park v Hawera played at Hawera Lawns. N Stevenson and B Strange (Pk) b B and S Williams (Hw) 16-14, winners Park.
