Variety of groups hire showgrounds
This is a new monthly column that talks about the events at the Egmont Showgrounds.
It is a busy community venue with more than 50 different user groups using the variety of facilities nearly every day of the week. Regular hirers include the South Taranaki Rural Fire Brigade, Taranaki Greyhound Racing Club, Big Brother Big Sisters and the Hawera Harrier Club.
St John Gymsports Club operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Riding for the Disabled on a Wednesday and Hawera Pony Club meet most Sundays during the summer.
Taranaki Eventing’s Horse Trial is one of the few still held in Taranaki and it will include the Taranaki Area Pony Clubs area trial to select a team for the NZ Pony Club Eventing Championships. The Taranaki Greyhound Racing Club is busy gearing up for the big annual Easter race meeting, entry is free to the public. Clinics include Oakura-based Dressage specialist Vanessa Way who enjoyed recent success with a Horse of the Year Title herself and her star pupil, Abbie Deken, won two titles including the top award, the Grand Prix Horse of the Year.
Pirongia-based Russell Higgins, who is a practitioner of the world renowned Pat Parelli equestrian training method, visits twice in April and Dr Deb Bennett makes her annual visit to Hawera from the Equine Studies Institute in America. She teaches unique anatomy-based horsemanship clinics.
