South Taranaki Star

Scoreline irrelevant, we’ve made it

- BEVAN BROUGHTON OPINION

Depth is fantastic, unless you can’t swim.

I really enjoyed having a look at what talent lies around Taranaki.

Sure we got beaten easily, 33-64 is pretty easy, but so did the A team v Wellington.

What really matters is winning next Saturday night.

Blooding well performed, loyal club players, and youthful talent with a few older heads was a great idea.

Great to see you back Jacko. To rest the starters made sense for me. We were already top qualifier, more points is just vanity. If we had copped a serious injury to a Perofeta or Boshier, the detractors would have moaned about that too.

If you spend your life worrying about what the moaners think, pop up and join Waikato.

With Waikato joining BOP in Division Two, the Chiefs must give us a decent Super game at home next year.

Premiership provinces and their loyal supporters should not be subjected to watching Chiefs v Africa 4 or any Aussie team. That’s akin to evolving and fighting our way to the top of the food chain, to then become a vegetarian.

This move to Chiefs and Northern regions is certainly paying dividends in player and coaching development. The effort against North Harbour proves that, but nothing less than a NZ derby is warranted.

Anyway, on to semifinal Saturday night.

Tasman are that annoying family from down the street that just seem to turn up everywhere you do. And they are quite good at everything.

But I think we’ve got this covered.

A big crowd, some clever chants and referee swaying, biased and loud interjections.

Just like Parliament every week.
