Top role at gallery filled

- JANE MATTHEWS

A former Puke Ariki art curator and historian has taken a leap to central Taranaki after landing the director role at the Percy Thomson Gallery in Stratford.

Laura Campbell took on the top role at the small but nationally recognised gallery on Monday, replacing Rhonda Bunyan, who was at the helm for almost seven years.

Campbell had been working at New Plymouth’s Puke Ariki for four years as the information services officer, researcher, art curator and art historian.

Percy Thomson gallery trust chairperson Bruce Ellis said Campbell’s background and experience, including the creation of the ‘‘Home Work: Taranaki’’ exhibition, which had more than 30,000 visitors, were ‘‘all key attributes she brings to the role’’.

‘‘We are looking forward to Laura building on the legacy left by Rhonda that has cemented the eminent place of the Percy Thomson Gallery in the life of Stratford and Taranaki,’’ Ellis said.
