Fresh living in family home

-

New owners at 48 Campbell St in Hawera will be able to settle in and enjoy a home that has been thoroughly refreshed.

The presentation is immaculate after current owners Brad and Pania recently completed repainting the home inside and out, and laying new carpet and lino throughout. That work followed reroofing several years ago, fitting of double glazing, rewiring the house, upgrading insulation, and installing a new gas heater in the lounge.

That investment recognised the appeal of this home’s location and the family features that first attracted Brad and Pania 16 years ago.

‘‘When we bought, we had a young family and it was great for us in that phase of our lives,’’ the couple says. ‘‘The best thing about our place is the proximity to local school and kindergarten, along with it being fully fenced for young children and animals.

‘‘The mountain views are spectacular on a good day, the garage is massive and is more than we have ever been able to use, and four bedrooms has meant our children always had a room to themselves.’’

From the street, the house is attractive in its two-tone grey paint with white accents, especially on a fine day when the green lawn and blue sky adds a colourful frame. The polished timber of the front door within the covered entry porch adds a warming touch.

The driveway runs alongside the house to a generous parking and turning area in front of that huge garage – approximately 6m by 9m, allowing plenty of room for at least two cars and a wealth of storage and workshop space.

Looking back at the house from the garage, the north-east-facing deck impresses with steps down from the timber surface to the rear lawn. It’s easy to imagine a summer barbecue out here with family and friends. ‘‘The section is nice and easy care, so weekends are spent with family and enjoying relaxation out on the deck with that mountain view.’’

Inside the house, the new decor is mostly a soothing mix of pale grey walls, darker-grey carpet and lino, and white ceilings, architraves and skirtings. The variation is the second living space alongside the main lounge, which has walls painted a subtle green shade. Sliding doors open from this space to the outdoor entertaining space of the rear deck.

The house is nicely oriented to the light and warmth of the sun. ‘‘The lounge is north-facing, with three other rooms facing west towards the mountain.’’

First National consultant Keren Kempton is marketing the property, which she says is a rare find in Hawera, transformed by the refreshment and ready for another family to move in and enjoy. ‘‘It’s handy to Tawhiti School and a short stroll to the local kindergarten. Prospective buyers really need to view as soon as they can to avoid missing out.’’
