Job well done as season wraps up

-

As the 2012 rugby season draws to an end we reflect on another job well done.

Putaruru once again fielded four teams – it is an absolute credit to our town and club that we are able to do this! Every week these teams turned up and did the royal blue and red proud.

The senior sides put in creditable performances each week, although injury meant that at times combinations weren’t able to fulfil their potential. The desire was there throughout the season and at times produced some great grassroots rugby that was a pleasure to watch.

The under-21 side was the team on everyone’s lips. Throughout the season this side dominated their more fancied city rivals. Hamilton Marist and Hamilton Old were no match for our young men. The talent on show weekly was amazing, the side played a free-flowing game, it was fantastic to see a team willing to break tradition and throw the ball around. It was a game plan that worked until the semifinal, where they were beaten by Morrinsville 6-0 in the mud, so close lads!

It was a huge honour for the club to have representative players make provincial and national honours. The rollcall, Waikato under- 21 wider training squad: Brad Karl, Mark Strange, Waikato under-21 Maori: Shey-Luke Ellis, Richard Bloomfield, Regan Carter and Denholm Rata. New Zealand under-21 Maori: Shaun Dixon.

This is truly an outstanding achievement for our club and we are proud to call these boys our own. What’s Happening Next Prizegiving: We look forward to a great turnout from our sponsors and supporters at a prizegiving to be held on September 1, starting at 6.30pm.
