Field scrambles for good results

Blue skies and freshly mown greens set the stage for the first qualifying round of Men’s Club Champs at the Tokoroa Golf Club on Saturday. Although the conditions were excellent and a good number of golfers competed, the results were average.

Members have an opportunit­y to improve on their scores this Saturday at the second qualifying round.

Twos on the day were scored by Gavin Cortesi, Kurtis Cortesi and Shanynn McCaskill. Shanynn also won the Ladies’ scramble with 37 points.

The first round of Ladies’ Club Champs was a close match between Tua Pirato and Debbie HayesLenno­n with Tua coming out on top. Great golfing.

On Friday 24th, Tokoroa hosted the Central Plateau Vets with golfers coming from Taupo, Turangi, Taumaranui, Mangakino and Kinloch. Pristine conditions and a field of 60 golfers; best on the day was Joe McGee with 42 points. A good day was had by all.

Twenty-four vets enjoyed a round of golf on Wednesday. Congratula­tions to Susan Goessi, Alan Blair and Joe McGee who all scored twos.

Tokoroa Ladies results for Thursday’s scramble: 18 hole Ladies – Shanynn McCaskill won with 38 points, Ann Preece was runner-up with 37 points. 9 hole Ladies – Pauline Blair had 29 points and Audrey Vanner 23.

Many exciting events are coming up on the Tokoroa Golf Club calendar including the annual $10,000 Open Tournament on October 13 to 14. In its 22nd year, the $10k tournament attracts golfers from near and far, eager to test their skills on the Tokoroa course and win prizes from our many generous sponsors. Another very popular event in October is the New World Tokoroa Open tournament. This is a well-organised event which will be enjoyed by many.
