Exquisite treat comes to town

-

The lineup of exquisite artists continues for the South Waikato Music Society when soprano Pepe Becker and harpist Helen Webby perform in Putaruru.

The intricate duo will perform an intimate concert for audience members, and you could be in the draw to attend.

One of the country’s best-known early music duos, soprano Pepe Becker and harpist Helen Webby are touring the country with an enchanting programme that they have fished out from the repertoire of a millennium.

They will perform at the Putaruru Gospel Chapel in Kensington St on September 9.

Love’s Nature tells the tales of birth and love, death, loss and new life, all reflected through the eyes of nature and the human heart.

This is a richly varied programme and two different harps are used: the classical concert harp and a copy of the medieval wire-strung harp. The audience will have a rare opportunity to experience these instruments close-up.

Pepe Becker began her musical career in Nelson but went to Europe to further study baroque singing. Helen Webby is from Whangarei and started playing the harp at age 12. The two women met while studying in The Hague in 1992, and they began performing together there.

Helen is also the founder of the Christchurch Harp School and has played with the Christchurch Symphony since 2000.

The South Waikato News has one double pass to give away to the show. To go in the draw, tell us what Helen founded along, with your name and contact details to P O Box 89, Tokoroa 3444 or email swaikato.editor@wrcn.co.nz.
