Strong winds test club golf champs

The first round of match play for the Men’s Club Champs competitio­n was held on Saturday at the Tokoroa Golf Club. While wet weather threatened, it was strong winds that tested golfers on the day. Congratula­tions to Tom Hayes, Garth Shaw, Henry Skelton, Darren Costar, Bradley HayesLenno­n and Dave Ahuriri, who all progress to the second round of the competitio­n. A reminder that those knocked out after the first round are eligible to play for the Atkinson Trophy.

With an impressive score of 43 stableford points, Barry Preece took top honours at Wednesdays Vets Scramble, 3 points clear of runner up John Loye. Alan Blair was third with a very respectabl­e 39 points. Two’s were scored by Barry Preece and John Kawenga. John also had the longest putt of the day on the 9th hole.
