Citation for treasurer

-

A long-serving member of the Rotary Club of Stratford has been recognised at a special ceremony.

Roy Lithgow — who has been a member of the club since 1964 — is retiring from the role of club treasurer, which he has held for

24 years.

Rotary Club of Stratford president Barrie Smith says in

1994 club treasurer Bruce McDonald, a local accountant, died suddenly, with Roy taking over the reins.

“If being treasurer was not enough he would take care of all the needs for our weekly barbecue such as ordering the sausages, napkins and rubber gloves. He would also pick up several loaves of bread and get the oil and tomato sauce as well looking after all the money and banking.”

As well as his role with Rotary, Roy was an accountant and a Justice of the Peace for over 50 years as well as being an auditor for many local organisations.

Barrie says Roy’s announcement to retire was an occasion to be acknowledged and Barrie secretly asked the District Governor if he could provide a signed citation to present to Roy during a special evening.

“Roy’s contribution to a wide range of duties he has taken on through his life in Stratford is absolutely remarkable so I have been pleased to have been involved with acknowledging that. Roy’s [wife] Merle should also be acknowledged as she has been a tower of strength behind him.”
