Meeting on End of Life Bill coming

-

Whanganui MP Harete Hipango is hosting a public meeting where people can express their views about the End of Life Choice Bill.

Also attending is National Party MP Simeon Brown and author of the bill Act Party MP David Seymour. Harete says the bill is of immense interest.

“Which is why I wish to host public meetings in my Whanganui electorate . . . On Tuesday 29 May I hosted a similar successful event in Whanganui with David Seymour and Maggie Barry with commentary from both sides of the debate.

“This is another important meeting to engage with and ascertain the views of my local constituents — even though the vote is a conscience one.”

Simeon says there were few issues worthy of greater debate than “those pertaining to our right to live and potentially our right to die”.

There have been more than 36,000 submissions made with 90 per cent of those opposing.

“As we consider altering the way we perceive a number of institutions in our communities, such as the medical profession, personal autonomy, and protection of the vulnerable, it is important that we have this public discussion.”

■ The public meeting will be held at The Hawera Community Centre Theatre Lounge, 66 Albion St Hawera on Thursday August 30 from 5:30pm.
