Outdoors life a bonus

Stratford Press - - News - By ALYSSA SMITH student reporter

The outdoors life on offer in Taranaki was a temptation too good not to take up, says Peter Boyd, the new community development officer at Stratford District Council.

Peter moved to the region last month to take up the role, which includes overseeing the Youth Council and the Positive Ageing group as well as being involved in a range of council facilitated events. As part of the community development team, Peter is also involved in shaping the direction of community development throughout the district.

Since starting in his role, Peter says he has been enjoying getting to know the community he is now part of.

“I love learning about the Stratford Community and the diversity of the role I have.”

Peter grew up on a sheep and Beef farm in Dargaville and was involved in a lot of community driven projects in Dargaville.

These included leadership positions for Dargaville Business Forum Inc, Dargaville Arts Association Inc and the Dargaville Community Development Board. Peter also ran the Inspiring Stories Future Leaders programme in Whanga¯ rei for 2017 and 2018.

Peter’s community development training and experience has also taken him overseas, where he did some work in Tasmania, Australia.

Moving to Stratford, says Peter, was an easy decision, thanks to its location in the heart of Taranaki.

“I’m excited to be living in Stratford and learning about the community and its residents. The beautiful outdoors of Taranaki was a double drawcard.”

Peter Boyd has joined the Stratford District Council community development team.
