Teachers in curtain raiser
Stratford Primary School teachers are gearing up to play the curtain raiser during this weekend’s Mitre 10 Cup game.
Deputy principal Aaron Moore as well as teachers Chad Jacob, Jason Dombroski and Sam Mako are part of the Taranaki Men in Education Rugby Team which will play Manawatu¯ on Saturday night at Yarrow Stadium.
The game will be on at 5.10pm before Taranaki takes on Auckland at 7.30pm.
Aaron says the team played Hawke’s Bay two weeks ago, losing 29-28.
He says that although there are some serious rugby players in the team, it’s a bit of fun and some students will be there watching them play.
“I guess it’s to show there’s no age barrier to play and be active. It’s good to be role models and I know a few of the students will be there to watch us.”
The students are looking forward to seeing how the team gets on.
Student Cody Carter (13) thinks the teachers are being a “bit risky playing as they’ll probably get hurt” and Harmony Parsons (12) says it’s cool that the teachers will be representing the school.
Cruz Selby (9) thinks it’s awesome the teachers are playing and Jaksen Lewis (13) thinks a few of them will be a bit stiff on Monday.
“But it’s awesome they’re playing.”
Addison Moore (7) doesn’t think her dad should play because he’s just had a broken wrist and he’ll probably get injured.
