New Plymouth band Laconic Zephyr’s new single has hit number one on the New Zealand iTunes rock chart.

It is the second time one of the band’s songs has got to the top place on iTunes this year. The band’s first single Cools You Down achieved the same result earlier in the year, which makes the whole thing pretty incredible, says lead vocalist and bass guitarist Joss Bines.

“Wow — it was truly amazing we were all absolutely stoked with this massive achievement.”

Joss says the new single, Seek A New Day, took 15 minutes to write. It was recorded in Taranaki at Bamboo Studios, produced by Mphatic and mastered by Briton Jon Astley who has produced work for Queen, Blondie, The Who and Eric Clapton.

Joss — who formed the band — has had a long career in the industry and used to play in a band that supported acts like DD Smash and the Exponents. She has always been passionate about music, working for music companies doing sales and marketing. Band members include Kama Antrobus (percussion/backing vocals) Glenn Smith (drums) Jason Olsson (guitar) Joe Caldwell (keyboard ) and Mark Bines (guitar). Laconic Zephyr head to the studio in October to record their single Where I Came From.
