Stratford Press

Student grateful for newspaper work

-

by ALYSSA SMITH

For the past two years I have had the wonderful opportunity to work at the Stratford Press one day a week through the Gateway programme Stratford High School provides.

I have received a lot of experience and my time at the Stratford Press has solidified my choice to pursue journalism as a career. Next year I will be doing online courses to learn more about journalism to become a qualified journalist, so I can work in a career that I have fallen in love with.

I would like to thank the community for letting me interview them and to write articles about them. If it wasn’t for the co-operative nature of the community, I would have had nothing to write about.

I hope the community has enjoyed reading my articles as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I have been able to write about many interesting things while working at the Stratford Press and I have learnt more about the Stratford community by doing so.

I would also like to thank Stratford High School and the Gateway programme for giving me the opportunity to gain valuable work experience which will help me on my journey to pursue journalism.

Throughout my time at the Stratford Press I have learnt many valuable lessons that will help me on my path to becoming a journalist. I thank my editor Ilona for teaching and guiding me on this wonderful experience and opportunity.

■ Editor’s note: Alice and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Alyssa and look forward to seeing her name in print in the future as she continues her studies.
