Large art col­lec­tion on show

Taranaki art en­thu­si­asts are be­ing of­fered a rare glimpse into an in­ter­est­ing art col­lec­tion.

The col­lec­tion of 30 works pur­chased by the late Rex Woofindin over the past 70 years will be ex­hib­ited un­til Oc­to­ber 28 at Koru on Devon Art space and gallery and the BNZ Part­ners busi­ness cen­tre.

The works are part of a 260 work col­lec­tion which in­cludes well known artists like Michael Smither, Darcy Ni­cholas and Peter McIn­tyre.

The Woofindin fam­ily have gen­er­ously made the paint­ings avail­able to the Koru Col­lec­tive to sell and raise funds for their not for profit gal­leries — Koru on Koru and Koru on Devon. The gal­leries, which are un­der the man­age­ment of Fay Looney are set up as a free space for artists to show their work. A small com­mis­sion on sales is charged to cover nor­mal busi­ness costs.

Fay says Rex was born in New Ply­mouth went to Boys High School then to Univer­sity in Dunedin mov­ing on to Eng­land be­fore com­ing home to work as a wool buyer. He then set­tled in Napier where he died.
