Large art collection on show
Taranaki art enthusiasts are being offered a rare glimpse into an interesting art collection.
The collection of 30 works purchased by the late Rex Woofindin over the past 70 years will be exhibited until October 28 at Koru on Devon Art space and gallery and the BNZ Partners business centre.
The works are part of a 260 work collection which includes well known artists like Michael Smither, Darcy Nicholas and Peter McIntyre.
The Woofindin family have generously made the paintings available to the Koru Collective to sell and raise funds for their not for profit galleries — Koru on Koru and Koru on Devon. The galleries, which are under the management of Fay Looney are set up as a free space for artists to show their work. A small commission on sales is charged to cover normal business costs.
Fay says Rex was born in New Plymouth went to Boys High School then to University in Dunedin moving on to England before coming home to work as a wool buyer. He then settled in Napier where he died.
