Stratford residents unite

The 2018 Stratfords of the World Reunion held recently in the small town of Stratford, Victoria, Australia, was a resounding success.

Twenty-one delegates from New Zealand revelled in the camaraderie and friendships they shared with others from five Stratfords around the globe. The special unity comes from a town or city’s connection with Shakespeare and New Zealand’s, of course, is that almost every street name in our town features in the bard’s plays.

The six-day programme was packed with receptions, banquets, a theatre performance, a concert as well as day trips to immerse ourselves in the countryside and culture of Australia. Everyone in the group was unanimous that the highlight was the wonderful hospitality that our Aussie mates shared, opening their homes and ensuring our every need was met. For some it was making new friends, and for others reforging friendships made in past reunions, often with much hilarity.

The 2020 reunion is to be hosted by Stratford, Ontario, Canada, and already some of the Kiwi contingent are making plans.
