Veteran shoots like a pro

Stratford Press - - News -

Eltham Smallbore Rifle Club member Murray Chinery may be in his 80s, but he can still shoot like a pro.

A patron of the Taranaki Association and life member to the ESBRC, Murray, 86, recently shot a 100.2 score — becoming one of the oldest to shoot a 100 card in New Zealand.

The highest possible score on a single target card is 100.10.

Murray is one of the older shooters within Taranaki and he managed to shoot the score during a postal competition. He also won the Taranaki C-grade postal competition and was awarded a medal at the Taranaki Association prizegiving dinner last Wednesday, beating many young competitors within his grade.

Murray has been shooting for over 50 years and was in the Eltham club in its very early days. The indoor smallbore season has now ended and the club congratulates its members on all of their achievements during the season.
