CHRISTMAS WISHES Wrap up the year with a good break

Stratford Press - - News - By NEIL VOLZKE Mayor Stratford District

For some reason the year seems to have flown by quicker than ever and Christmas 2018 is now upon us.

Christmas is a great time of year as it provides an opportunity to catch up with friends and family, and if we are lucky, take a few days break. We can also look back over the 2018 year with a sense of achievement and celebrate the most memorable moments as we choose.

As Stratford District’s Mayor I am privileged to work with many organisations and people who share a common pride in the district we live in. It continues to amaze me how dedicated, supportive and passionate people are about our community.

While Christmas is a time for celebration, giving and fun, we should still take time to think of those families who are in need and those who find life in general a real struggle.

Those who are less fortunate than many of us, really do appreciate the support they receive from our broader community. The 2018 Mayoral Xmas gift appeal has again been very well supported and we are forever grateful to those who have donated gifts. This week we have the pleasurable job of distributing the gifts to those in need.

I also acknowledge and thank the large number of volunteers who give their time to participate in sport, clubs, organisations and services who are great examples of giving, in an ongoing and really meaningful way. Once again the Stratford community continues to be extremely generous and supportive of each other.

Finally, I express my special thanks to the many people in our community who, in many different ways, assist and support me in my role as District Mayor.

On behalf of Debbie and myself, have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
