Plenty under the tree!
Christmas came early for Karen Monk, who will struggle to fit all her presents under the tree this year.
Karen was the winner of the annual Stratford Lions Christmas Stocking raffle, from a book of raffle tickets she bought at the Stratford A&P Show last month.
“I always try to support the lions, so I normally buy a book of raffle tickets, but I certainly didn’t imagine I would win this year.”
Karen says she is thrilled with the win, and was looking forward to unpacking the huge pile of goodies.
“I can see some Caltex vouchers in there. That is great as I drive to Stratford from Inglewood every day for work!” Robin Love, the Stratford Lions member who sold the most tickets this year, says the raffle is a great fundraiser to sell.
“I always tell people there are no losers with the Christmas Stocking raffle. Not only do we have a huge first prize, but we also have a great second prize, and all the profits from the fundraiser go straight back into the community, so everyone wins in a way.”
Lions sold 7500 tickets this year, something Peter Death, president of the Stratford Lions, says, thanks to the hard work of their members.
“It is made easier though, thanks to the great items donated by local businesses to go in the stocking. From full tool sets to vouchers there really is something for everyone. Even as we were going around selling tickets, we were being handed more items to include,”
Peter says once printing and other costs are taken out, the raffle will have raised over $6000 for the community.
“That money doesn’t leave Stratford — it all goes into Lions projects in the area in one way or another.”
