■ Strathmore Golf Report:

One hundred and twenty players came to play the Christmas hamper on December 23 in good conditions. The best scores from each division are:

Women — Philippa McBride 39, Laureen Baldock 38, C.Kock 37, D.Gibb 37.

Senior Men — Pete Smithson 43, K.Murrel 42, T.Van Der Poel 41, Lance Fenton 40, D.Powell 40.

Intermedia­te Men — Vaughan Wood 42, James Smithson 41, D.Spurdle 41, Gerard Keegan 39, Snow Latham 39, B.Werder 39,

Junior Men — Graham Kelly 42, G.Guckert 41, Greg Wood 40, Carrol Coulton 40, Lile Smart 40, J Van Der Poel 40, and T.Roach 40.

Twilight golf took place on January 2. It was a warm evening with a good number playing.

Best scores:

John Cusdin 25, Mike Johnston 24, Carrol Coulton 20, Lance Fenton 20, Laureen Baldock 20, Maurice Mills 19, Neil Smillie 19. Closest to the Pin was Carrol Coulton.

■ Stratford / Avon Bowling Report:

On Tuesday, December 11 another two rounds of the 3/5 Taranaki competitio­n was played, with one game won by the club. The Taranaki Open Pairs took place on the weekend of December 15 and 16 but neither of the two teams entered by the club qualified. At the Manaia Optional Pairs Tournament on December 18, Kevin Mischefski, Morrie Stieller, Marlene Mischefski and Matt Watson took second place. On the same day the final round of the 3/5 Taranaki competitio­n was played and won by West End Club. The optional Lamb Day took place on December 22, won by Paul Digby, Matt Watson and Malcolm Hoskin. Second place went to Colin Jones, John Sextus and June Phelan.

A round of the Syme Shield was played on January 5, with the Stratford /Avon Bowling Club men bearing Tower 3:1. The Championsh­ip Premier Fours also took place that day, with Paul Digby, Matt Watson, Dennis mcEwen and Neil McKee winning. Runners up were John Sextus, Cliff Smith, Brian Pearce and Iain Parker.

June Phelan, Cheryl Sherning and Marlene Mischefski were winners of the Women’s Championsh­ip Triples on the same day.

Twilight Bowls starts this Friday from 6pm and the Men’s Championsh­ip Triples starts on the weekend, with a 9am start.
