Stratford Avon Bowling Club:

On Monday the Manaia hosted Optional Fours Tournament took place.

The Stratford Avon team of John Sextus, Sheryle Taylor, Irwin Van Pelt, and Dennis McEwen took first place honours. On Tuesday the ladies’ Egmont Shield campaign came to an end with the Stratford team finishing a very respective third.

The club’s Friday Night Bowls3five Businessho­use social competitio­n starts mid-January. The bar opens at 5pm with play starting at 6pm and finishing 8 pm. Sausage sizzle and spot prizes are included. $90 per team of three or more members, the fewer existing members the better, with only one being allowed if needed.

Over the weekend much of the Taranaki Open Mixed Pairs section play and post-section play was completed.

The club had a great representa­tion of six teams competing with Sheryle Taylor/Chris Hall, Theresa and Brian Needham, and Janet Ravji/Brian Pearce all qualifying for Sunday’s post-section knockout stage.

Janet Ravji/Brian Pearce survived the first knockout round and are sitting 12/10 up after 9 of 16 ends in their game against Grant Hassall/ Kristin Stampa before rain forced the stop of play, meaning the game has to be completed next Saturday.

Strathmore Golf Club: A small field braved the wet and windy conditions for Twilight last Wednesday. The results were Bloss Coplestone 22, Tippy Tippett 17 and Jordy 16. Bloss was closest to the pin on the 18th. Club member James Smithson was named Taranaki Eagles Golfer of the Year. Twilight is every Wednesday teeing off from 4pm. Everyone welcome. The Chrismas Hamper is on December 18. Ring Sam on 7627828 if interested.

Midhirst Tennis Club: Midhirst 1 played Rotokare in New Plymouth. The team lost 4-2, but the game could have gone either way as Midhirst lost two tie-breakers.

Player of the day was Colleen MacDonald for winning two of her three games in her first outing for Midhirst midweek ladies.

Midhirst 2 lost to Huatoki Combined 6-0. Two of the games were decided in a tie-breaker which Midhirst lost. Player of the day was Talia Kowalewski for reaching two tie-breakers before retiring after rolling her ankle. Midhirst 3 has a postponed match to play next week.
