■ Strathmore Golf Club: The club had a successful Christmas hamper event with just under 100 teeing off.

New Zealand rugby coach of the year, Neil Barnes, was at the event, and he took away a prize in the Junior Men’s division.

Results were: senior men - 1st M Kelbrick, 2nd G Gucket, 3rd Pete Smithson, 4th M Soffe, intermedia­te Men - 1st Vaughan Wood, 2nd Dan Murphy, 3rd B Tippett, 4th Shane Jury, junior men - 1st Oscar Lourie, 2nd Bevan Jordan, 3rd Richard Pratt, 4th T Simson, women: 1st Laureen Baldock, 2nd Loop Lourie, 3rd Courtney Tippett, 4th R Keegan.

Twilight golf continued through January with the three Tippetts Gary, Logan and Courtney being winners and grinners along with Glenn Howatson, patron Neil Smillie, Dick Vanner, groundsman Vaughan Wood and president, Lance (Bangers) Fenton. The last twilight for the year was held on February 7 with Logan claiming the chook with 19 points, dad Tippy second with 17 and Vaughan third on 16. Sunday golf started on Sunday, February 11 with an Ambrose format. It was not a great turnout but a good day had by those who were there. Next Sunday, February is the first round of Captains Trophy and Putting and then on the 25th, it’s the San Rosa Trophy.

■ Midhirst Tennis Club: Midhirst 1 played at home against Rotokare 1 losing 5 – 1. All games were keenly contested and Colleen MacDonald and Marianne Drummond snuck home a win in a tie-breaker. Midhirst 2 headed north to play Waitara 1 in hot conditions. All games were tough battles with Waitara winning the first three games, and Midhirst the next three games. The final tally was a draw on the countback of games.

Night tennis has recommence­d with Mixed Veges holding the Top Dog Shield, requiring only one more win to get their name on the coveted trophy again.
