Maryann Residential Care Home and Hospital

New wing is state of the art

- Writes Kem Ormond

It comes to all of us sometime in our lives, when we need extra help in a caring and homely environment. Finding the rest home that is going to suit the needs of you or your loved one can take time, so knowing what is available in your town well in advance is a valuable piece of advice.

To be able to move from a villa to rest home, dementia care or hospital care and to make that move at one facility, makes it so much easier for the person and family concerned.

With well trained staff on hand at the complex, you can be assured your family member is going to get the attention and care they deserve.

Agecare Central Limited is a locally owned charitable organisation operating Maryann

Home, Hospital and Dementia Unit. It has a strong community focus and commitment to the care of the elderly.

They are committed to providing person-centre care based on the model of Te Whare Tapa Wha encompassing spiritual, family/whanau, physical and emotional wellbeing within a safe, caring environment.

Along with a 24-unit retirement village onsite and the rest home, hospital, and dementia facility, which can care for a further 48 residents, Agecare Central has recently opened a new wing “Marire Suite” that now can accommodate an extra 18 residents at rest home or hospital level care.

This specially designed wing has four bedrooms that are designed to be able to open into the dementia wing if required, giving even more flexibility for resident needs.

Each bedroom has been fitted with an overhead lifting system as well as a state-of-theart bed, table, and chairs.

The $200,000 needed for the fit out of these rooms was made possible through the generosity, fundraising and hard work of the local community, groups, organisations, individuals, and families.

And the care doesn’t stop there. There are staff on hand who will organise home-based care as well as meals on wheels.

Maryann Residential Care Home is situated down the end of a quiet cul de sac surrounded by beautiful trees and overlooking the Patea River. It is peaceful, relaxing and offers everything you are going to need when the time comes for some extra care. Although at present the retirement villas are full to capacity, if you or a family member are contemplating a move to a rest home, make sure you take time out and visit Maryann Residential Home care. The staff will be more than happy to show you around and you will be able to see for your self their new purpose-built wing.
