Good Things Take Time- Including Good Design!

- EXTERNAL AFFAIRS with Tim Goom

Designing a beautiful and functional landscape requires a carefully executed design process. At Goom Landscapes our process typically follows a timeline that involves several key stages.

The first stage of the design process is the initial consultation. During this stage, I meet with you to discuss your inspiration for the space and to gather important information about the site, such as its size, shape, and existing features. We can also discuss budget and any specific design requirements. We then send you a proposal, summarising items our design will capture.

The design team then begins developing your design. This involves creating a concept plan that factors in the information gathered during the initial consultation. The plan will typically include a site analysis. The site analysis is a crucial component of the design stage as it helps our design team better understand the features and challenges of your site. This includes factors such as sun exposure, soil type, and drainage patterns.

Once the concept plan has been completed, we present this to you so we can ensure we have captured your vision and budget expectations. You can request modifications or changes to the design before it moves to developed design. We also present a feasibility study at this stage, outlining the likely costs of construction, so there are no surprises!

The design team will work closely with the client to ensure that the design meets their needs and expectations.

We then move into the developed design phase. This is where our team creates a detailed plan which is to scale. We present this to you with a fixed construction quote before finalising developed design and scheduling construction. We also provide a planting design at this stage, which generally includes a list of all the plants that will be used in the design, along with their locations and spacing. At this point, design is complete and the project is handed over to our construction team to bring your design to life.

The timing of the design process for Goom Landscapes can vary depending on the size and complexity of the project. However, as a general rule, the process can take anywhere from several weeks to several months to complete. It is a carefully planned and executed process. From the initial consultation to the final implementation and ongoing maintenance, the design team works closely with the client, our construction team, planting team and maintenance team to create a beautiful and functional landscape that meets your needs and exceed your expectations. Although the length of the process varies, the end result is always a stunning landscape that enhances the beauty and functionality of your outdoor space and the overall value of your property.

Careful considered design is key to the longevity of the finished result. This is both in terms of construction but also investing in a design which doesn’t date quickly by being subject to the vagaries of fickle landscaping trends. With the cooler months upon us, now is the perfect time to get in touch to start the design process so you can be relaxing in a transformed outdoor space by next summer!
