Renovation Craft work
The Block’s
things don’t go to plan. That and a great sense of humour – because if you can’t laugh, you will cry. The show has been popular with viewers in Australia andNew Zealand. What’s the secret? There’s a little something for everyone. Reality, renovation and games. The Block is a show that the whole family can watch together and I amsure our Kiwi brethren will love watching Aussies and telling theTVhow they would’ve done it better. What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to would-be renovators? Stop right there. Noseriously, be realistic about your budget from day one. Nothing is more heartbreaking than overcapitalising or not finishing. You were pregnant while filming
Does your baby find the sound of hammering and sawing comforting? Funny – Iamsure she does – which is lucky asweare about to embark on our own crazy renovation at home. Try to get in and get it done before I spot the next lot of great ideas on a Block series. Does being amumchange the way you look at houses and renovation? I amfar too practical now, that is for sure and I amalso much more conscious about what will work in the long term. I can tell you now that washer dryer combos sound great, but do not work for families. What’s your favourite room in your house? Our deck is actuallymyfavourite room. Everything happens out there – the girls playing and riding their bikes, friends and family hanging out and barbecues all summer long. Are you keen onDIYand what’s your specialty? I love DIY andmyspecialty would have to be looking for the ideas in the first place. Myexecution isn’t too bad but the planning is the fun part. What can we expect as the series progresses and what should we look out for? This series is so much fun and the contestants are brilliant. There are some wonderful ideas for every home. What to look out for? Just look out.
