This week’s TV picks

TONIGHT The Young Ones 10.35pm, Prime Here’s an interesting sounding BBC documentary exploring the idea of what it means to ‘‘feel’’ young. Based on the work of Harvard Professor Ellen Langer, who oversees the experiment along with Michael Mosley, the series follows six British celebrities who are sort of transported back in time – spending a week living in a house that has been decked out to be an ‘‘authentic 1970s home’’ – the era that they all associate with being young and vibrant. The six celebrities, all aged around 80, also dress in 1970s attire, watch 70s television and eat food popular at the time. Apparently the power of this mental adjustment is strong and the results surprising. MONDAY State of Affairs 9.30pm, TV3 Katherine Heigl is back on our screens this week as CIA analyst Charlie Tucker in new series State of Affairs. Heigl, of Grey’s Anatomy fame, is good in the role as the woman who briefs the United States president on international events and imminent threats to national security every morning. Billed as a ‘‘political espionage thriller’’, the pilot episode has its moments, but overall doesn’t offer anything ground-breaking – this has all been done before – think Homeland and Madam Secretary – even with the twist that Tucker was engaged to the president’s son who was killed in a terrorist attack. Alfre Woodard is good as the president and her scenes with Heigl are interesting – it’s refreshing to see an on-screen depiction of two influential women conversing. TUESDAY How to Get Away with Murder 8.30pm, TV2 The third episode of new drama How to Get Away with Murder goes to air this week as the mystery of who killed Lila Stangard continues. The pilot for the show was fast moving, flashy and intriguing, with a strong performance from Viola Davis as Professor Annalise Keating, a college law professor who hand picks a group of promising students to study under her at her high-powered law firm. The show is produced by Shonda Rhimes, the woman behind Grey’s Anatomy and is continuing its fast-paced action this week as Keating begins to suspect her husband Sam is hiding something.
