$ 55m deal for Leicester star

-

revamping Everton’s transfer operations, the Merseyside club will have to pay compensation to Leicester.

Bill Kenwright, the Everton chairman, has admitted that he was convinced of the merits of appointing a director of football by Farhad Moshiri, the club’s majority shareholder, having previously been reluctant. ‘‘It’s something I wasn’t used to, so I didn’t really know a lot about it because there seemed to be a lot of crossfertilisation with my role,’’ Kenwright said. ‘‘But it is modern football and if you get the right one it is a big plus.

‘‘We are talking to various directors of football and Ronald has worked with a lot of directors of football and will embrace that, as well as the Everton way. So I would have thought yes, we are leaning towards appointing a director of football but Ronald has to be part of that process.’’

While Leicester have been attempting to tie some of their stars to longer contracts, Danny Drinkwater, the midfielder, has admitted that he is still waiting to be contacted by the champions.

The 26-year-old has seen Vardy, his close friend, sign two new contracts in the past year, while Kante and Mahrez were both offered improved terms in an effort to keep them at the King Power Stadium. Drinkwater, however, is still waiting to hear from the club. TIMES
