Beaudenism is the new religion

Feet up

BEAUDEN Barrett has become so good that a parody account on Facebook has been created that worships the All Blacks star like a god.

The page describes itself as ‘The First Church of Beauden Barrett’ with frequent hyperbolic posts that talk up Barrett as a ‘saviour’ following the retirement of Dan Carter.

‘‘In very unsurprising news, our saviour has been given the starting first five-eighth jumper to wear against Australia. Steve Hansen has finally seen the light of Beaudenism. Praise be to Beauden and Beauden speed,’’ read one post.

One meme captured Australian and South Africa players, who still can’t catch the dashing playmaker, kneeling on the field with the caption: ‘‘Lord, how do we stop Beauden Barrett. Amen.’’ mishap. It might be having a knock-on effect for his club in Japan, Toshiba Brave Lupus, after they were thumped 40-6 by Yamaha Jubilo last weekend after winning their first three matches. After declaring himself New Zealand’s ‘cyborg overlord’ following his silver and two gold medals at the Rio Paralympics, Liam Malone revealed he wouldn’t be taking a break. The Kiwi Blade Runner shared a picture with his prosthetic feet rested up, but said: ‘‘There’s no time to put my feet up, not having feet to put up had I the time. #BackToWork #DoesThatEvenMakeSense.’’

Malone suddenly became active on Twitter for the first time in two years in Rio, with his location saying he lives on Middle Earth, and he’s told media that he’s used to the extra media attention because ‘‘being disabled you get attention anyway’’.
